About

Borges once wrote that the world is quietly saved by people who tend gardens, play chess in a corner café, or shape clay with care. People who give their full attention to something small and honest.

I would like to add one more to that list: the wargamer who carefully sets up a scenario, studies the odds, and refights history one hex at a time.

That is what Classic Wargamer is about. Scenario breakdowns, rulebook deep-dives, strategy notes, and a love for the simple and the well-made. Whether you are a lifelong grognard or just getting started, welcome.

I want this to be a place you enjoy reading, but also a place you leave with something useful: a book worth tracking down, a ruleset you had not heard of, an idea that changes how you think about a game. Every article includes the sources and references that I believe are worth your time. This is a work of curation, guided entirely by my own tastes and sensibilities, but I trust it will resonate with many of you.

Roll dice, command armies, relive history.
